Cereal Killa

I don't know why but every time I think about Cereal Killa I want to sing it out loud in a terrible impersonation of Michael Jackson. Thankfully I keep this inside.

We finally made it along to Cereal Killa last weekend. I'd been wanting to visit for months, much of which had to do with my desire to sing, the rest to do with the reports I'd heard that it was something special.  See one of the things we miss about Victoria are the neighbourhoods.  Auckland has the inner city suburbs, each which seem to have its own identity, but once you get past the city fringe it's a little bit like a suburban wasteland.  Ok, that's mean. There are some suburbs that are pretty awesome, but there are many others that are missing something. Thankfully, Cereal Killa is helping to turn that around by bringing a little bit of life and soul outside the city. Soul and eggs.

Hollandaise ON THE SIDE. They got it right, people!
It was a bustling Sunday morning when we arrived and after a short wait we were seated at a high table and presented the menus.  Coffee orders were taken and then things ground to halt as staff battled to deal with demand for a warm spot for breakfast on a busy morning. But our coffees and food were worth the wait. Tash and I opted for the eggs benedict, a slathering of avocado on toast, crispy bacon,  spinach and tomatoes, poached eggs and just the right amount of hollandaise. The bread was a little crispy on the outside, and one of my eggs a little over done, but otherwise it was just what I needed after a long morning run.

Wil opted for more of a lunch option, the Cock-a-doodle oink which was a bacon chicken burger, and with a side of Hungarian sausage.  This was well tasty, but far too much for my tummy on this occasion. Wil raved though. He's getting into his crazy sausages.

A great addition to the neighbourhood for sure, it's a little far to walk from ours, but I'm sure we'll be back next time we're around or once we've worked our way through a few more on the list.

Cereal Killa is at 360H Dominion Road.
