Sura Korean Restaurant

It had been a long week. It had been a long running day yesterday. Wil had had a long cleaning day today. And the meal I have been meaning to cook and just keep putting off was not feeling right tonight (Donna Hay's crispy chili and vinegar fish). A favourite TV show momentarily distracted us and by then it was getting a little late for us to comprehend cooking. And so we found ourselves braving the rain drops and going in search of food.  We'd never tried Sura and often talked about eating there so tonight was the night. We tucked ourselves into a corner table and began pouring over the menu.

I decided to start with the steamed dumplings as I am kind of a dumpling fiend. These were pretty tasty, but I far prefer the Chinese version that comes with the thick, spicy sauce. Mmmm spicy.  Wil chose the prawn tempura as his appetizer and received a giant tower of crispy covered sea creatures. I found the tempura batter to be too heavy for my liking but they were pretty good.

For mains I chose the Bibimbap, a cold dish of rice, six different kinds of vegetables topped with noodles, ground beef and an egg. All mixed together and covered in chili sauce it was delicious and just what I was after.  Wil chose the sweet potato noodles with beef, and whilst they were tasty they were a bit much of one flavour and texture and I think Wil regretted his choice.  The one thing I never regret at Korean is the side dishes that served: bean sprouts, kimchi and sweet potato. They are always my favourite part of the meal and I tend to almost fill up on them before my main even arrives!

Sura also offers traditional Korean bbq and we have vowed to return, with friends in tow to really make a night of it. We'll definitely be back, and maybe not just for the sides!
