Chipotle Turkey Chili

I have to say, I kind of expected more from this chili. I mean, it sounds so good. Chipotle, cumin, cocoa, turkey - it's the stuff chili dreams can be made of. Unfortunately not this one.  For sure it did the trick. We came home hungry and tired after a good run, even bringing friend Jonny who was crying about being too tired to plan dinners at the end of the week, and there was our chili, warmed and bubbling away just waiting for us to dig in. All we needed was to heat a little bread on the side and we were golden.  But it just didn't quite do it for. I know that it might be a little harsh comparing all chilis to the fantastical Kirkland Ranch chili, but for me that was the standard.

I really wanted to expand in using different meats in my chilies and the chicken chili I made a couple of weeks back was a welcome adventure, but this turkey chili just didn't hold up its end of the bargain. Oh well. I guess I'll just try another next time!

1lb lean ground turkey
2 cans diced tomatoes with jalapenos
2 cans low sodium kidney beans
1/2 sweet onion
1 green pepper
1/2 c. corn*
2 Tbs. chili powder
1 Tbs. garlic
1/2 Tbs. cumin
1 Tbs. cocoa powder
1 Tbs. dried chipotles in adobo (or chipotle hot sauce)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
salt and pepper to taste

Take the turkey and brown in a large skillet. Add to crock pot along with the remaining ingredients. Cook on low for 8 hours.

Serve over brown rice or with a big salad on the side.

*I forgot the corn :(
