On a warm, sunny afternoon we found ourselves in the small town of Seville in Australia's Yarra Valley. Having slept late and not had breakfast we were fair starving and so eagerly anticipated our meal at The Old Butcher Shop Cafe, recommended as it was by one of the staff at a winery we had tasted at late morning.
Taking a seat inside we all drooled over the contents of the pastry case, tummies rumbling while we waited on our meals. Given the lack of breakfast, I was after for something brunchy and chose the breakfast sandwich, with bacon, eggs and avocado on a Turkish roll . It was huge. Even with an empty belly it defeated me. It was just that right amount of greasy (as there were a few drinks the night before), and contained all the elements of a good breakfast. It was sated.
Wil was enticed by the exotic and chose the Wagyu burger. It was even bigger! Served with almost unnecessary fries I was astounded he managed to finished, and I'm well aware he can eat. He described it lovingly, fresh, hot, moist and well-seasoned. Impressed by quality of the patty, cooked right through despite its chunky size, I'm pretty sure he was keen to come back day after day, were there not thousands of other restaurants to explore.
Our dining partners seemed similarly pleased with their meals and awed by their size as well. Linda went so far as to suggest a warning was needed on the description of the Butcher's breakfast!
Sadly we were all too full for anything sweet, and this was a great shame as the contents of the pastry cabinet looked divine.
If you're out wine tasting in the Yarra Valley, and you find yourself hungry and near Seville, you'd do worse than the Old Butcher Shop Cafe. Just bring a tupperware, you'll have leftovers!
