The Food Truck craze hasn't quite hit NZ the way it has North America, but it's getting there. TV Shows like Food Truck Garage are certainly helping the trend along, and we're starting to catch on to twitter as a way to follow our favourite foods around town.
I'd been reading about The Lucky Taco and Otis & Sarah's journey to delicious goodness for the past few months in Bite magazine so as soon as they were up and running their truck was added to our hit list. Sadly, every time we have a spare couple of hours on a weekend it seems to rain - not really conducive to a Sunday stroll and a taco. Foiled repeatedly. So when I heard that the truck was making an appearance at the Chili and Hop Festival out at Hallertau I was stoked: tacos for me!
By the time we arrived they had already sold out of pork so I chose the chipotle prawn which was easily one of the best tacos I've ever had. The prawns were perfectly cooked: juicy and tender but not rubbery and slathered in a smoky and delicious chipotle sauce. The vegetables were crispy and crunchy and with a few dollops from one of the many hot sauces on offer I was in taco heaven.
Wil couldn't join me at the festival so you can be sure we'll be chasing these guys around town in hopes of trying their spicy fish or pulled pork tacos. You can find The Lucky Taco at various festivals and events across Auckland and beyond, but most of the time they'll be at 230 Ponsonby Road. You can check out their schedule on their Facebook page, or on twitter.
The Lucky Taco is definitely our fav taco place in town! We still haven't had the chance to try the pork one yet either, it's sold out every time we make it there.
