Ok so there's more than one Speakeasy in Vancouver, but this was the one on Granville St, conveniently located a few doors up from the hostel, especially on a horribly rainy Sunday morning. Although it was empty, it was warm and the staff were friendly and in moments I had a massive pot of peppermint tea steaming in front of me and that is always a good way to win me over. Throughout our time there we were often offered refills, which is something I don't think I have come across in my time in Canada and it's another way to get on my good side.
But the best way to get on my good side at breakfast is offer a kickass menu at very reasonable prices. I seriously struggled between their early bird special: basic but super cheap, and some of their more interesting offerings most notably the french toast with saskatoon berry sauce, and the several eggs Benedict variations on the menu. I ended up with the vegetarian benny, not because I'm veggie (by any means) but because the combo of spinach, tomatoes and lots of avocado which sounded amazing. And it was. I fair woofed my meal down in minutes and was all set to face the day. Well almost, it was a horrible, horrible rain storm that had me soaked through and I hear worse is still to come. And this week I won't have the Speakeasy eggs to keep me going :(
